Use of global numbering resources and global service codes

1 Introduction and background

Questions relating to the use of global numbering resources and of global service and global network codes, including their provision to service providers, are increasingly being discussed within ITU-T. Requests from interested organizations are considered by SG2, with due regard for adherence to the corresponding provisions of Recommendation ITU-T E.164.1 “Criteria and procedures for the reservation, assignment and reclamation of E.164 country codes and associated identification codes”, adopted in 2008. As at August 2011, such codes have been assigned to over 35 global telecommunication services (GTSs) recognized by ITU-T, and the Director of TSB publishes new or modified code assignments on the website, where this information is available to any organization needing to make changes.
