Welsh government strikes political compromise by applying for two gTLDs
by Kieren McCarthy | 22 Feb 2012 |
The Welsh government has struck an expensive political compromise by deciding to apply for both a dot-cymru and a dot-wales top-level domain.
Dot-uk registry owner Nominet confirmed earlier today it has been chosen by the Welsh government to apply for the top-level domains. The Welsh government announcement appeared shortly afterwards.
The choice of Nominet after a closed bid process was widely expected, especially after the group behind a competing bid, DotCym, announced it would not be applying.
But what is notable is that Nominet - which runs the dot-uk registry - will now be applying for both dot-cymru (Welsh for 'Wales') and dot-wales.
